Stress and Holistic Ways to Combat Stress

Everything needs to be done fast nowadays.  We eat fast, we don’t sleep enough, we run to catch meetings, we see our friends only a few hours per week and we can’t stop thinking about the things that we have to do.  No matter what happens, we can’t afford to slow down, and this will leave unwanted marks on our body.  We are stressed all the time and we rarely have days when we feel completely free.  Is there a solution?

Of course there is!  And the solution is far from energy drinks or caffeine, although most of the people rely on them to get them through the day.  By trying holistic treatments to your stress problem you make sure that you maintain not only your spirit, but also your body.

To begin with, food is one of the most important things in your life even though you don’t think about this too often.  We are supposed to eat healthy, whole foods but when this is not possible, natural supplements might be the key.  Depending on your needs you can take daily supplements of vitamins and minerals or simply a combination of antioxidants and amino acids.  This will leave you feeling much better and you will notice that stress does not have such a big effect on you anymore.

A good idea is to introduce in your diet, day by day, foods that are well known for their anti-stress effect.  Dark chocolate is not only tasty and healthy (yes, you’ve heard right!) but it can also enhance your mood when you're feeling a little low.  As a snack, you can try blueberries or pistachio, as they both have nutrients that will change the way you feel about the world.  Seems too simple?  Well, that's because it is.  You are in control of how you feel, and simple things can make a big difference.

Exercise is equally as important and is considered a natural antidepressant, and it can take the stress away in a matter of days.  Every time you feel overwhelmed by everything around you, try exercising for a few minutes; it might seem difficult at first but soon you will see what difference it makes in your life. If you are not a big fan of sports or gyms you can dance; it will have the same effect over your body plus it's fun and will make you feel happier.

What else can you do?  Massage is an amazing way to improve your health, your mood and your mind, and it will make you feel excellent even if you had a terrible week. You can choose anything from a Traditional Chinese Massage to a regular relaxation massage, the end result will be the same relaxed bliss.  If you are up for something more interesting, you can try acupuncture.  You may be concerned that it's painful but actually you won’t feel much except for an extraordinary feeling of freedom and relaxation.

Of course, all these won’t be as effective as they should be if you don’t make a real change in your lifestyle.  You might not be able to work less or to sleep more, but you are able to find ways to help you think less about every small detail.  The world will not end if you don’t reach that meeting in time, and nothing bad will happen if you buy your groceries tomorrow and not today.

When you have too many things to do you can’t finish any of them in a successful way, so learning how to prioritize is a very important step to reducing your stress level.  For some people creating a schedule is the best idea, while for others keeping reminders works best.  Try different methods and see what works best for you and what makes you feel less stress in your daily life.

Another simple suggestion is talking to other people about what you feel.  We tend to keep too many things inside, as we believe that no one can understand how busy we are and how important everything is.  Well, believe me: we all feel the same way.  If you start talking to other people they might help you understand that your happiness and your health are your top priorities, and that it’s ok to slow down from time to time.

When times are tough it's important to not give up or give in to the chaos.  It is normal to feel stressed and it’s normal to feel bad some days, but this does not mean that there isn’t more in store for you.  Life has many surprises and when you stop worrying about what will happen, great things come to you.  Take your time to discover what a wonderful person you are and what a great strength you carry inside!
