"My Baby Won't Stop Crying"

"My baby won't stop crying!" The five words that every mother hopes they will not have to say very much, if at all. Unfortunately, they are said all to often.

Colic applies to a baby who cries more than 3 hours a day, more than 3 days a week, for more than 3 weeks.

Colic has become so common in newborns, that it is now almost expected that they will have it. James C. Breneman, MD considers it to be "a definite manifestation of intolerance, much of which is allergic". With colic, cow's milk is overwhelmingly the leading allergen. A breast-fed baby can still develop an allergy to cow's milk if the mother is consuming milk, yogurt, cheese, etc.

Colic can be remedied though. In a breast-fed baby, the mother should eliminate the intake of all dairy products. As well, the baby should be given a probiotic to help build up their gut bacteria. For formula-fed babies, the formula should be rotated between non-dairy formulas. As with the breast-fed baby, the formula-fed baby should also be given a probiotic.

Probiotics for babies, such as Renew Life's FloraBaby, can help to supply the baby with additional probiotic bacteria, which can help to support optimum digestive and immune function.

Ultimate Flora™ FloraBABY probiotic provides health-promoting probiotics specifically chosen for their prevalence in the digestive tracts of infants and toddlers, including the key B. infantis strain, an important strain of beneficial bacteria in infants. Each serving of FloraBABY probiotic contains 4 billion live probiotic cultures of 5 beneficial Bifido and Lacto strains.

Colic is only one symptom of food allergy in a baby. Other common symptoms can be:

Bloodshot eyes, bronchitis, chronic cough, cold sores, hives or welts, irritability, loose bowels, nasal stuffiness, sniffling, snorting, sneezing, colic, diaper rash, eczema, frequent colds, fussy eater, nose rubbing, rashes, tiny broken blood vessels under the skin, wheezing.
