Natural supplement for Alzheimer's
US patent issued for BCM-95 curcumin, a natural turmeric extract found in human clinical trials to be highly beneficial in preventing further cognitive decline and reducing amyloid beta plaques, one of the major causes of Alzheimer's disease.
According to Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, studies show that Alzheimer's is less common in Indian that the United States. This could be due to a dietary factor as turmeric is used more in India. The active ingredient is turmeric is curcumin which can dissolve the amyloid plaques that are a hallmark of Alzheimer's.
Author of Herb Bible, Earl Mindell, R.Ph, Ph.D, says that more than three thousand years ago, Indian healers used turmeric to treat obesity. Now turmeric has a beneficial effect on the liver, stimulating the flow of bile and the breakdown of dietary fats.
BCM-95 curcumin has already undergone human clinical trials in patients with Alzheimer's at Chinese University of Hong Kong under Professor Larry Baum (1998). It was found to be highly beneficial in preventing further cognitive decline, reducing amyloid beta plaques, which is one of the major causes of Alzheimer's; increasing vitamin E levels in the body, enhancing curcumin levels in the blood.
